Right  Rev Prof. J.O.Y Mante Assumes Office as Moderator of Presbyterian Church of Ghana
The new Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana Right Rev Prof. Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante, has formally assumed office.

The 18th Moderator of one of the biggest and leading orthodox churches in Ghana assumed office at a special handing over ceremony held on Saturday, December 1st 2018 at the Eben-Ezer Congregation, Osu in Accra.

The historic event which was graced by people from all walks of life included General Assembly Council members, Ministers of the Church, family members, the academia, friends, heads of churches and para-church organizations in and outside the country including a delegation from the Independent Presbyterian Church if Brazil.

The former Acting Moderator of the General Assembly of the PCG Rev Dr Victor Okoe Abbey, called on the members of the Church to wholeheartedly accept the new Moderator, obey, respect, support and submit to his authority, so that he will have the peace of mind to work with joy.

This, he said, will inure to the benefit of the Church as it would lead to the growth of the Church in all spheres.

The Right Rev Prof. Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante was elected the new Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) to succeed the Very Reverend Professor Cephas Narh Omenyo, the immediate past Moderator.  

Very Rev Professor Omenyo was elected Moderator of the Church in August 2016 at Abetifi Kwahu during the 16th General Assembly and was inducted into office on Sunday 4th December 2016.

Unfortunately the Moderator fell sick in May 2017 during his first official visit to the Europe Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana to ordain some Ministerial Probationers in London.

The General Assembly Council of the PCG took a decision on Friday, August 17 to declare the Moderator’s seat vacant so that a new leader could be elected for the Church.

Profile of the Right Rev Prof. Mante

He holds an MA, MPhil and PhD in Systematic Theology and Philosophy of Religion from Claremont Graduate University, Claremont, California in the USA.

Prof. Mante has served as the Board Chairman of Adom Foundation since 1996 and he also served on the National Accreditation Board of Ghana.

He has served on many committees and boards in Ghana and abroad over the past 20 years including the Presbyterian University College of Ghana, Presbyterian Women’s College of Education, and the World Alliance of Reformed Churches in Geneva, Switzerland.

He has been a minister of the Gospel in the Presbyterian Church of Ghana since 1981 and he served as the Akuapem Presbytery Chairperson from 2006 to 2011.

Right Rev Prof Mante was the immediate past President of the Trinity Theological Seminary, Legon in Accra.
