Central and Western Presbyteries elect new Chairpersons and Lay Representatives
The Central and Western Presbyteries of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana have elected new Chairpersons and Lay Representatives to steer the affairs of the Presbyteries.
At the Central Presbytery, Rev Fiifi Arkhurst, the current Presbytery Clerk for Akuapem was elected Chairperson. He obtained 75.93%, with Rev Simon Kofi Yeboah obtaining 14, 81% and Rev Ebenezer Kofi Decker 9.26%.
Mr. John Ofori Junior was also elected Lay Representative on the General Assembly Council. He obtained 87% of the total votes cast at the first round.
At the Western Presbytery, Rev Dr. Joseph Apea Assamoah, District Minister for Tarkwa was elected Chairperson. He obtained 36 votes representing 55.38; Rev Felix Akrasu Anim District Minister for Tarkoradi also obtained 19 votes representing 29.23 percent with Rev Abraham K.A Odobill obtaining 10 votes representing 6.5 percent.
The Presbytery also elected Dr. Paul Addo-Essah as Lay Representative on the General Assembly Council. He obtained 40 votes, Mr. Michael Boakye Boateng 13 votes with Mr. Safo Larbi 9 votes.
The elections were held during the just ended 2021 Presbytery Sessions which took place at Agona Swedru and Tarkoradi respectively.
The elections of the two Presbytery Chairperson and the Lay Representatives became necessary due to the fact that the tenure of the current Chairpersons, Rev Alex Owusu Addo, Central Presbytery and Rev Timothy Annor Western Presbytery and their Lay Representatives, Ms. Stella Amofaa Dodoo and Mrs. Randa Aasre respectively end their tenure on August 31 this year.
