Christ the King Congregation, Sefwi-Wiawso – The Presbyterian Church of Ghana has officially inducted Rev. M. A. Nyantakyi-Marfo as the new Chairperson of the Sefwi Presbytery. The induction ceremony, held on October 13, 2024, was officiated by the Moderator of the General Assembly, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye. The event drew a large congregation of Clergy, Lay Reps., Ministers’ Spouses, church members, and dignitaries.

Delivering a powerful sermon on the theme “Jesus Christ, the Alpha and the Omega: Education with Christian Values for Transformation,” the Moderator emphasized the critical role of Christ in every aspect of life, particularly in shaping society through education. He underscored the importance of integrating Christian values into education, urging all to prioritize the moral and spiritual growth of the younger generation.

Focusing on Matthew 5:13-16, Moderator Opare Kwakye indicated that, the Gospel as salt means it is active, penetrative, and powerful. When Jesus says, “You are the salt of the earth,” He tells us that we – Christians, bring cleansing, taste, and preservation. On the point, “You are the light of the world,” he mentioned that darkness is the absence of light. The Christian’s relationship with Jesus Christ, the Alpha and the Omega, enables us to reflect light into the world.

Drawing from his experience of lights out, The Rt. Rev. intimated that there is the tendency to assume that since you do not have access to light, all others have no light too. There is light in the world because there are Christians, he added.

Papa Moderator compared the sun, which radiates light, and the moon, which reflects light with Christ and the believer.

“The Son of God is like the sun, and the believer is like the moon. As the Son of God radiates His light to Christians, we reflect this light to the world.”

“Christ must remain at the center of all that we do,” Rt. Rev. Dr. Kwakye said. “As we strive for academic excellence, let us not forget the transformative power of education founded on the values of our faith.”

Galamsey

Moderator bemoaned a comment from a politician that, it is unemployment that has brought about galamsey so we should teach the people how to do responsible galamsey, as though this is a solution. If it is so, then let us say that unemployment has brought armed robbery so let us teach people to do responsible robbery or unemployment has brought prostitution so we should teach people to do responsible prostitution. “This is unacceptable!”

He asked that Nananom should kindly think of today and the next generation when giving off lands to people for Galamsey. To the politicians, he asked that politicizing the issue to water down the seriousness is highly unaccepted.

Rev. Nyantakyi-Marfo, the new Sefwi Chairperson, in his speech, expressed deep gratitude for the trust reposed in him and pledged to lead with humility and dedication. He called on the entire Sefwi Presbytery to unite in advancing the mission of the church, particularly in fostering spiritual growth and community development.

The induction ceremony was also attended by key officials of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana and Nananom and representatives from sister churches, who offered their congratulations and prayers for Rev. Nyantakyi-Marfo’s leadership.
