The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye has challenged businessmen and women in the church to throw their weight behind projects being undertaken by the church.

The PCG, founded in 1828, is the oldest, continuously existing church in Ghana. The church marks 200 years of its establishment in 2028 and has therefore lined up several activities and projects to celebrate the occasion. One of the projects is the construction of a Conference Centre, otherwise known as the Kutunse Project.

In a sermon to close the 25th General Assembly of the PCG at Abetifi, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye appealed to Presbyterians in businesses in Ghana and beyond, as well as well-to-do members, to support the Kutunse Project. He said that the history of the church shows that the Basel missionaries who established the church were all businessmen.

Moderator Opare Kwakye indicated that “Part of our church’s heritage is the fact that the Basel mission that founded our church, which sent missionaries to start our church in Ghana, was made up of only a few theologians. Most of the leaders of the Basel mission were businessmen.”

“They were Christian businessmen who believed that the resources that the Lord had brought to them were to be applied or employed for mission,” said the Moderator.

From the depth of his heart, he passionately prayed by saying,  “I pray in the name of Jesus that Presbyterian businessmen would bring their resources together to support the mission of the Lord in their church, and when they do so, let us also pray for them that it will be well with them”.

“So, all Presbyterian businessmen listening to me come, let us celebrate our heritage,” he added as he thanked a member of the church, businessman, and Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, for sponsoring the 25th General Assembly.

“Let me also, on behalf of the entire church, express our collective appreciation to honorable Dr. Bryan Acheampong, who solely sponsored the accommodation and meals for all commissioners and corresponding members.”

“He has not only supported the Kutunse project but has also enabled us to have one of the most successful General Assemblies in recent times”. Dr. Bryan Acheampong donated GHS 2million in support of the Kutunse Project. “We pray for God’s blessings upon Dr. Brian Acheampong, and I want all Presbyterians to follow his example”.

Shalom aleikhem…
