Asante South Presbytery has successfully concluded its 2026 New Year School and Bicentennial Lecture at the PCG-Ascension Congregation in Obuasi. The event was marked by reflection, spiritual renewal, and strategic vision, serving as a significant precursor to the PCG’s 200th anniversary celebration in 2028.

Held under the theme “Celebrating Our Heritage: Building on the Foundation Already Laid” (1 Corinthians 3:11), the gathering brought together clergy, catechists, presbyters, and laity from across the Presbytery to reflect on the Church’s resilient journey since the arrival of the Basel missionaries in Osu in 1828.

The Presbytery Chairperson, Rev. Daniel Brobbey, opened the day with a devotion that recalled the origins of the New Year School in 2016, explaining its purpose of equipping members with knowledge and skills critical for growth, relevance, and effective witness. He noted that this year’s program was unique, as it included the Presbytery’s first-ever public lecture in honour of the bicentennial celebrations.

The first keynote address was delivered by Rev. Dr. Joseph W. Acheampong, Protestant Chaplain at KNUST, who spoke on “Celebrating God’s Faithfulness and Impacting Generations.” He traced the Church’s history from its Basel foundations, highlighting its tripartite heritage and the Five Solas that continue to shape its identity. His lecture emphasised the holistic impact of the PCG in education, health, and agriculture, and concluded with a fervent prayer session rededicating participants to the Apostolic Model of ministry.

The second lecture was presented by Rev. Dr. Seth Kissi, former Chairperson of the Akyem Abuakwa Presbytery, who explored New Testament perspectives on tithing for church growth. He underscored the importance of faithful stewardship in advancing mission initiatives such as Agenda 2 Million.

His presentation sparked lively discussion during a Q&A session, revealing the eagerness of members to deepen their understanding of stewardship and discipleship. The day ended with prayers, offertory, and benediction, leaving participants inspired and united in their resolve to build upon the strong foundation of faith laid by their predecessors.
