29 districts to plant 10,000 Oil Palm Seedlings
As part of its ongoing commitment to social responsibility and the economic well‑being of its members, the Akyem Abuakwa Presbytery has distributed 10,000 oil palm seedlings to congregants across its 29 districts.
The initiative, launched during a presentation led by the Clerk of Presbytery, Rev. Paul Kwame Darko, and the Lay Representative to the General Assembly Council, Mrs. Emma Asiedu Darko, with Rev. Edwin Akoto Atteh representing the Presbytery Chairperson, reflects the Presbytery’s vision of empowering members through sustainable livelihoods.
Now in its third year, the project has already begun transforming lives by providing families with a pathway to financial independence. Beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the Presbytery leadership, noting that the seedlings will soon bear fruit, enabling them to meet household needs such as school fees, stationery, and consistent support for their congregations.
Technical oversight is provided by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) – Oil Palm Research Institute, with Mr. Theophilus Tetteh Lanor commending the Presbytery’s foresight and urging annual continuation of the programme.
The Presbytery Director of Development and Social Services (DSS), Rev Kingsford Kusi Kyere also encouraged beneficiaries to nurture the seedlings diligently to ensure maximum impact. Looking ahead, Mrs. Emma Asiedu Darko announced plans to nurse another 10,000 seedlings for distribution in the coming year, reinforcing the Presbytery’s long‑term commitment to economic empowerment and community development.
