The Clerk of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. David Aboagye‑Danquah, has charged the newly inaugurated Area Board of the Agogo Presbyterian Health Services to collaborate closely with Management to prioritise strategic investments, strengthen staff motivation and lead a firm campaign against indiscipline across the health institutions.
The 24th Area Board was inaugurated at a solemn ceremony held at the Agogo Presbyterian Hospital Chapel as part of the Clerk’s two‑day official visit to the Asante Akyem Presbytery. Chaired by Rev. Bright Agyekum Kobeah, the Board was sworn in to provide strategic oversight for all health facilities under the Agogo Area Health Service.
Addressing the Board, Rev. Aboagye‑Danquah reaffirmed the Presbyterian Church of Ghana’s long-standing role as a key partner in national healthcare delivery. He noted that the PCG operates 61 health facilities across 13 regions, supported by a workforce of 4,304 staff and a 1,668‑bed capacity, offering curative, preventive and wellness services, particularly in rural communities.
He reminded the Board that they assume leadership at a challenging time. Health institutions, he said, are grappling with inadequate professional staff, ageing vehicles, and shortages of essential equipment. The biggest challenge, however, is the rising demand for healthcare in rural communities amid dwindling partner support.
“Repeatedly, our partners have cited a lack of access to increased health programme financing. In light of these growing financial warnings, the Church must identify new funding sources for its health programmes. Today, the Church formally tasks you, the Board, with helping us secure these new health funds,” he declared.
Responding on behalf of the Board, Rev. Bright Agyekum Kobeah thanked the General Assembly Council for the confidence reposed in them and pledged the Board’s commitment to improving health delivery. He called for cooperation from all stakeholders, management and staff, the Presbytery, traditional authorities, the District Assembly and the general public, to ensure the Board succeeds.
The Agogo Area Health Service comprises major institutions including the Presbyterian Hospital, Agogo (the flagship referral hospital), Presbyterian Hospital Kwahu Praso, Presbyterian Hospital Kom Aburi, multiple health centres across the region, and two Nursing and Midwifery Training Colleges.
The ceremony was attended by the Director of the Department of Social Services, Mrs. Rebecca Teiko Sabah Esq, District Ministers, health managers, Agents, Presbyters and staff. The Clerk was accompanied by his Personal Assistant, Rev. Eugene Duodu.
