PROFILE OF THE MODERATOR
RT. REV. DR. ABRAHAM NANA OPARE KWAKYE
Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye is the 19th Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana. He was elected at the 23rd General Assembly of the Church in August 2023 and assumed office in December 2023. He is also the Chancellor of the Presbyterian University, Ghana, an Executive Committee Member of the Christian Council of Ghana and the Chairman of the Governing Council of the Trinity Theological Seminary, Legon.
He started his education at the Deks Preparatory School, Tema; Tema Secondary School, Tema; Presbyterian Training College, (now Presbyterian College of Education) Akropong-Akuapem; University of Ghana, Legon and Trinity College, now Trinity Theological Seminary, Legon.
Rt. Rev. Dr. A.N.O. Kwakye started his working life as a Teacher at the Presbyterian Junior Secondary School, Agona Kwanyako, between 1991 and 1993. After his ministerial training at the Trinity College, he was commissioned by the Presbyterian Church of Ghana into the Holy Ministry of Word and Sacrament in 1997 at Kaneshie and was ordained in 1999 at Odumase Krobo. The Moderator has served as a Minister of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana in the following areas:
• Probationer (Second Minister) La Bethel.
• Minister in Charge, Christ Congregation,
Adentan with oversight of the Ascension Congregation, North Legon, Covenant Congregation, La Nkwantanang and Amrahia Dairy Farms Preaching Point.
• Minister in Charge, Ebenezer Congregation, Ashale Botwe.
Minister in Charge, Calvary Congregation, Haatso with oversight of the Resurrection Congregation, Agbogba and Emmaus Preaching Point.
• District Minister, Madina and Minister in Charge of the PCG Immanuel Congregation, Madina.

Rt. Rev. Dr. A.N.O. Kwakye holds a Post-Secondary Teachers Certificate ‘A’ from the University of Cape Coast (through the Presbyterian Training College, Akropong), A Certificate of Ministry from the Trinity Theological Seminary, a Diploma in the Study of Religions, a Bachelor of Arts and a Doctor of Philosophy, all from the University of Ghana, Legon.
Between 2013 and 2014, he took up an ESKAS (Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships) post-doctoral fellowship in the Faculty of Theology, University of Basel, Switzerland. Also in October -November 2013, he participated in the Global Ecumenical Theological Institute organised by the World Council of Churches as part of its General Assembly in Busan, Korea. In 2017, he was also awarded a David M. Stowe Fund for Mission Research which allowed him to spend some time at the Yale Divinity School for research.
He assumed appointment as a Lecturer at the Department for the Study of Religions, University of Ghana, Legon in January 2014, and was promoted to the rank of Senior Lecturer in February 2020. His research interests are in Church History, African Christianity and Missions. He is a part-time lecturer at the Akrofi-Christaller Institute of Theology, Mission and Culture, Akropong-Akuapem. Between 2015 and 2017 he also served as a part-time lecturer at the Trinity Theological Seminary. A few months after his promotion to the rank of Senior Lecturer, he was elected the Chairperson of the Ga Presbytery. Since then, he has been on leave from the University.
Rt. Rev. Dr. A.N.O. Kwakye has several publications in internationally reputed journals and books to his credit. He has attended and presented papers at several local and international conferences, seminars and workshops. He has travelled extensively in the United States of America, Europe, South East Asia and South America. He holds membership of the following academic organisations:

Rt. Rev. Dr. Kwakye is married to Mrs. Benedicta Kwakye, a Deputy Chief Nursing Officer at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Ridge-Accra. They have three daughters.
