The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt Rev Prof. Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante has commended the Jackson College of Education for building a seven-unit classroom block at Danyame-Kwaem, a settler community in the Asante-Akyem Central Municipality.

The new classroom block was built by the Principal of Jackson College of Education Mrs. Theodosia Wilhelmina Jackson, with the support of the DEEN Foundation. The new building will provide classroom facilities for some 200 school children who could not travel 14km to attend the closest school at Obenimase.

These school children were left with the only option of studying in a makeshift school building that was an abandoned poultry farm.

The Moderator made the commendation when he inspected the classroom block as part of his pastoral visit to the Asante Akyem Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.

Mrs. Jackson remarked that every child, regardless of where they came from, deserved better education and must not be left behind hence their decision to build the school block.

“Let us support the underprivileged in society as a people to not breed criminals who may hunt us in the future.”

The new building will provide classroom facilities for hundreds of school children who were previously studying in an abandoned poultry farm. The abandoned poultry farm served as a makeshift classroom for the over 200 children who could not travel 14km on a daily basis to the closest school at Obenimase.

Mrs. Jackson adopted the school in 2018 and has since provided children of the school with uniforms, footwear, food, teaching, and learning materials, also offered scholarships to some students to continue their studies.

The Moderator was accompanied by his wife Mrs. Florence Mante, the Asante Akyem Presbytery Chairperson Rev David Aboagye Dankwa, the Presbytery Lay Representative on the General Assembly Council, Mr. Ismael Arko Mante, the Public Relations Officer of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana Rev George Larbi and other Ministers of the Church.
