The Director of the Ramseyer Training Centre, Abetifi, Rev. Gideon Buenor Puplampu, has called for a Scripture‑grounded nurture ministry to effectively carry out the Great Commission.
Delivering the keynote address at the 5th CLAN Moderatorial Forum at Abetifi‑Kwahu, he stressed that Christian education must be spirit‑filled and rooted in biblical doctrine if the church is to shape lives and build character.
Rev. Puplampu explained nurture as a cycle with three interdependent components: reaching out through evangelism and missions, reaching in through pastoral care and fellowship, and building people up through Christian education and discipleship.
He noted that each component nourishes the other, and together they make the Great Commission potent. “Absence of Christian nurture will mean the lack of deliberate, intentional knowledge, faith and character development in the church. It can spell doom for us,” he warned.
He cautioned that weak pastoral ministry leaves members ill‑prepared to handle grief and life’s challenges, urging CLAN leaders to take a holistic look at nurture. “Before we accuse people, we must ask ourselves, are we nurturing people?” he asked.
He added that nurture should train believers in what to believe, why to believe, and how to live out their faith, citing examples such as the PCG’s teaching on why it does not use the crucifix with the body of Christ.
Rev. Puplampu further advised CLAN leaders to invest limited resources in effective evangelism rather than programmes that emphasise prosperity and wellbeing at the expense of the gospel. He pointed out that in churches where nurture is weak or absent, the church becomes “a disappointment to God.”
He stressed that without a conscious, deliberate, and passionate transfer of biblical truth at all levels, the church risks following any available direction, even resorting to entertainment to keep members. For him, a strong nurture ministry is not optional but essential for the health, growth, and witness of the church.
