Ga West Presbytery honours 16 faithful servants
In a deeply emotional and dignified ceremony marked by gratitude, reflection, and spiritual celebration, the Ga West Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana has honoured sixteen dedicated servants whose combined decades of ministry have significantly shaped the life of the Church and its communities.
The retirees—comprising three Ministers, eleven Catechists, and two Caretakers—represent a remarkable tapestry of commitment, sacrifice, and unwavering faith. Together, they embody over 300 years of collective service, a legacy that stands as a testament to steadfast devotion in both pastoral and lay ministry.
Leading the list is Rev. Dr. Daniel Bediako Akoto, retiring after 27 years of distinguished service, followed by Rev. Ebenezer Kwarfo Ansah with 18 years, and Rev. Kwasi Kyei‑Baffour with 17 years. Their ministerial leadership has nurtured congregations, strengthened ecclesiastical structures, and contributed to the spiritual growth of countless members within the Presbytery and the Presbyterian Church at large.
Among the Catechists, the longevity of service was particularly striking. Cat. Elijah Adom K. Mperi and Cat. Alexander Ansah Sekyi stood out with 41 and 40 years respectively—decades spent teaching, guiding, and anchoring the faith at the grassroots level. They were closely followed by Cat. Emmanuel Afful with 29 years, Cat. Ernestina Akuye Bonsu with 20 years, and several others whose service ranged between 13 and 21 years. Each, in their own right, played a vital role in sustaining the doctrinal and pastoral fabric of the Church.
The Presbytery also celebrated the contributions of its support staff—Mr. Edmund Djabaku Ocansey and Mr. Frank Aryitey—both retiring after 8 years of service as Caretakers. Though often working behind the scenes, their commitment ensured the smooth functioning of church facilities and the dignity of worship spaces.
Delivering a heartfelt tribute, the Chairperson of the Ga West Presbytery, Rev. Enoch Adjei Pobee, expressed profound appreciation to the retirees for their “selfless and faithful service rendered not only to the Presbytery but to the Presbyterian Church of Ghana as a whole.” He emphasized that their labour—often carried out under challenging conditions—has left an enduring spiritual and institutional legacy that future generations must cherish and build upon.
“The Church stands today because of the sacrifices of men and women like these,” he noted. “Their years of service are not just numbers; they represent lives touched, communities transformed, and the Gospel faithfully proclaimed.”
Responding on behalf of the retirees, Rev. Dr. Daniel Osei Bediako delivered a moving message of gratitude, attributing their successful years of ministry to the sustaining grace of God. Drawing inspiration from Presbyterian Hymn 775, he underscored themes of thanksgiving, divine guidance, and the assurance of God’s abiding presence throughout their journey.
“We are grateful to God, to the Presbytery Session, and to the entire Ga West Presbytery for the support, encouragement, and partnership we have enjoyed over the years,” he said. “Our service has been a calling fulfilled, and we give all glory to God.”
