The Presbyterian Relief Services and Development (PRESED), in collaboration with its international partners, the ACT Alliance and the Evangelical Mission in Solidarity (EMS), has extended critical financial and psychosocial support to households affected by the recent floods in Accra.
The intervention is part of a coordinated humanitarian response aimed at cushioning vulnerable families whose lives and livelihoods were severely disrupted. The support targeted 650 beneficiaries, with particular attention to older persons, persons with disabilities, pregnant and lactating mothers, and female‑headed households.
These groups were identified as being at heightened risk during the floods and in urgent need of assistance to stabilise their recovery. So far, 570 beneficiaries have received USD 100 each, providing immediate relief to help families secure food, medication, clothing, transportation and other essential needs.
PRESED and its partners have assured the church and affected communities that disbursement to the remaining beneficiaries will be completed in the coming days.
Beyond the financial support, local Presbyterian partners played a significant role in strengthening the humanitarian response. The PCG Head Office, working through its departments and chaplaincy units, provided psychosocial support, trauma counselling and pastoral care to affected families.
This helped victims process the emotional impact of the disaster and regain a sense of stability. Several local congregations and districts also mobilised resources to support their members directly.
Churches provided cooked meals, clothing, temporary shelter, water, sanitary items and transportation for evacuation. Some Presbyteries, district and congregational leaders visited some affected homes, offering prayer, encouragement and practical assistance.
