Nurturing children must go beyond material provision
Emphasising that nurturing children must go beyond material provision, the Chairperson of the North America and Australia Presbytery, Rev. Christian Bekoe Appenteng, has called on parents and the Church to prioritise the spiritual formation, discipline and godly upbringing of children.
He stressed that true Christian parenting includes cultivating the fear of God and intentionally involving children in the daily planning and priorities of every Christian home, just as the widow of Zarephath did. Preaching on the theme: “The Child in Need – Our Responsibility,” the Chairperson reminded congregants that children are gifts entrusted by God to both parents and the Church.
The Chairperson delivered the message during his pastoral visit to the PCG South Carolina Preaching Point in Columbia on Worldwide Communion Sunday, which also coincided with the congregation’s Children’s Harvest Day. He encouraged members to live upright lives and use their resources to support the holistic growth of children, emphasising that parents are the first mentors God has given them. He later administered Holy Communion to the congregation.
The South Carolina Preaching Point currently has 34 members—14 adult males, 13 adult females and 7 children. Caretaker Mr. Prosper Tuffour expressed appreciation for the Chairperson’s visit and pledged continued support toward strengthening the young congregation to the glory of God.
The Chairperson was accompanied by the Clerk of the Washington D.C. District, Mrs. Bridget Quaye, and her husband, Mr. Isaac Nuamah, a Presbyter and Treasurer of the Emmanuel Congregation, North Carolina.
