Accountability critical to church finances
The Finance Directorate has renewed its call for integrity, accountability and faithful stewardship in the management of church finances as it seeks to strengthen transparency across all levels of the Church.
During a presentation on church finances on PCG Connect, the Finance Director, Alex De-Graft Hanson commended the efforts of ministers, presbyters and congregational leaders who continue to uphold the Church’s financial policies, while identifying areas that require closer attention and improvement.
The Director noted that ongoing monitoring exercises by the Internal Audit Unit are helping the Church identify weaknesses in financial administration and improve financial management practices across congregations and Presbyteries.
Among the issues highlighted were the need for accurate classification of income, proper banking procedures, adequate documentation of expenditure and stronger oversight mechanisms to ensure that all financial transactions are fully accounted for.
The presentation also encouraged Presbyteries and congregations to maintain consistency in applying the Church’s financial guidelines, describing effective monitoring and sound record-keeping as essential tools for safeguarding resources entrusted to the Church.
Alex De-Graft Hanson reminded church officers that the resources of the Church ultimately belong to God and must therefore be managed with utmost faithfulness and integrity. He further urged agents and presbyters to remain committed to both the spirit and letter of the Church’s financial policies in the interest of the wider mission of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.
