The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana has observed that the church has come a long way, expanding steadily while maintaining its focus on core objectives.
Growth and Expansion
He noted that PCG continues to open congregations worldwide, with membership cutting across all spheres of life in America, Europe, Australia, Canada, and other parts of the world, including Ghana.
“The church is growing, even looking at the growth in Breman Asikuma where there used to be one district some years back, it used to be one district, Besease, but now you have three districts,” the Moderator said.
Pastoral Visits and Observations
He disclosed that his pastoral visits were revealing more information about congregations not only in Ghana but across the world. Emphasising the grace of God, he stated that the church has a good name and would continue to work to maintain it.
The Moderator made these remarks while addressing enthusiastic congregants, ministers, and other church leaders at the Ascension Congregation in Breman Asikuma. Members and leaders from three districts—Brakwa, Besease, and Asikuma—converged to welcome him on the third day of his Central Presbytery pastoral visit.
Commendations and Encouragement
Following presentations by District Ministers, whose reports showed marked progress in church growth, the Moderator commended them and the various groups in the church for their soul‑inspiring songs and splendid performances.
He specifically praised the Church Choir for their perfect rendition of the bicentennial song and applauded the children from Breman Asikuma Presbyterian School for their brilliant displays. The children presented vital information on each generational group of the church, including several offices within PCG’s administration, to the admiration of the Moderator and the audience inside the chapel.
Call to Bicentennial Participation
The Moderator tasked the congregation to fully participate in the 200th anniversary of the church, stressing that it was an anniversary no one could exclude themselves from. He pointed out that PCG remains focused on building upon the foundation already laid.
He charged the congregation to focus on Jesus and allow Him to lead their lives and the church, urging them to do away with the flesh and anything that seeks to divide or weaken their resolve for Christ. “Let us focus on Jesus. Let us allow Jesus to lead the church,” he said. “Stop focusing on people and focus on Jesus,” the Moderator stressed.
Call for Unity
He reiterated his call for unity, quoting the motto of the church: “That they all may be one – children, adults, men or women – that they all may be one.” He emphasised that with unity, the church can achieve everything as it follows Jesus Christ, who will bless them.
Kutunse Project and Congregants’ Questions
The Moderator also touched on the Kutunse Project, reminding congregants of their contributions. Unlike in Swedru, where there were no questions after his address, members at Breman Asikuma engaged him actively. Their questions centred on the publication of Special Ministerial Training entrance examination results, excursions to the Kutunse Project site, the General Assembly Office, Presbyterian Press, and admission programmes at the Presbyterian University, Ghana.
The Tour Plan
The Moderator has already visited the Kasoa Zone, comprising Kasoa, Nyanyano, Kasoa North, and Kasoa South districts; the Swedru Zone, which includes Swedru, Swedru North, Kwanyako, and Winneba; and the Asikuma Zone, consisting of Asikuma, Besease, and Brakwa. The final Nsaba Zone will bring together Nsaba, Nyakrom, and Akroso districts.
