The Presbyterian Church of Ghana’s Bicentennial Ecumenical Pilgrimage has officially begun, with a 37‑member delegation touching down in Basel, Switzerland, on Saturday morning. The team, drawn from various Presbyteries, is embarking on a 10‑day historic journey tracing the church’s missionary roots and strengthening ecumenical partnerships.
The delegation, led by the Clerk of the General Assembly, Rev. David Aboagye‑Danquah, departed Accra on Friday night at 10pm landed in Basel at exactly 10:00 am local time. The arrival marks the formal start of the PCG’s Bicentennial activities in Europe, ahead of a series of worship services, institutional visits and engagements with partner churches.
Speaking on arrival, members of the delegation expressed gratitude for a safe trip and anticipation for the spiritual, historical and ecumenical significance of the pilgrimage. The visit will take the team through key mission landmarks in Switzerland and Germany, including Basel Mission sites, historic congregations, archives, and centres connected to the early missionary movement that shaped Presbyterian witness in Ghana.
The Bicentennial Ecumenical Pilgrimage forms part of the church’s broader celebration of 200 years of Presbyterian presence, honouring the foundations laid by early missionaries and strengthening partnerships for the future.
