Mary Seyram Akoto, Senior Nursing Officer in Pediatrics at Assin Praso Presbyterian Hospital, has been named Best Nurse Midwife at the 6th Annual National Dinner and Awards Night of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA).

The event, held on Friday, December 12, 2025, at the Kempinski Gold Coast City Hotel, Accra, celebrated excellence, dedication, and outstanding service among nurses and midwives across the country.

In a video preceding her honour, Mrs. Seyram Akoto reflected on what led to the recognition. “In 2021, my facility transitioned from a health center to a hospital, and there was a great gap in neonatal care services. A lot of babies were being referred to distant facilities because there was no neonatal intensive care unit,” she explained.

She recounted how she and her team advocated for the establishment of a neonatal intensive care unit. “A lot of proposal letters were written and sent to the hospital administrator and his team, highlighting the urgent need. By the grace of God, the new unit has been created and is saving a lot of lives,” she said.

Mrs. Akoto expressed gratitude to her colleagues and leadership for their support. “I would like to thank the neonatal team and the hospital management, as well as the district, regional, national and GNRMA Executives. Special thanks also go to Madam President, Mrs. Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, for creating such a platform where nurses are being recognised,” she added.

Mary Seyram Akoto’s award is not only a fitting tribute to her commitment to saving lives and advancing healthcare delivery, but it also highlights the ever-increasing contributions of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana’s health facilities to the country’s development.
