In a historic first, the Brong Ahafo Presbytery Chairperson, Rev. Benjamin Appiah has assumed the role of Senior-Most-in-Residence at the Ramseyer Training Centre (RTC), Abetifi, where he is spending three days mentoring the Special Ministerial Training (SMT) 2025 Intake.
Traditionally reserved for former or sitting Clerks and Moderators, the role now welcomes a serving Presbytery Chairperson, marking a significant shift in leadership engagement with ministerial students.
On his first night of interaction, Rev. Appiah urged the trainees to hold firmly to Christian principles as they prepare for ministry. “There are a lot of opportunities ahead of you,” he said, “but likewise, there are threats and potholes. Make sure you do not fall into them.”
He also addressed the often-overlooked role of spouses in ministry. Drawing from personal experience, he encouraged students to involve their partners in their training journey. “Spend some time teaching them,” he advised, noting that many spouses are unintentionally left behind during the rigours of ministerial preparation.
RTC Director, Rev. Gideon Buenor Puplampu, who moderated the session, confirmed that a “spouse partnering in ministry” programme is currently in development and awaiting approval. Rev. Appiah then affirmed the importance of such initiatives, stressing that ministry is fundamentally about relationships. “You must first be aligned in the vertical relationship with God, but the horizontal, your relationship with others, is equally vital,” he said.
His counsel combined spiritual depth with practical wisdom, leaving students with a renewed sense of responsibility to uphold integrity, nurture family life, and root their ministry firmly in Christ.
