The Clerk of the General Assembly, Rev. David Aboagye-Danquah, has urged Church Life and Nurture (CLAN) leaders in the church to prioritise the larger interest of the PCG above selfish or parochial concerns. He stated that the growth of the church depends on cooperation and mutual support among its diverse groups.
Speaking as Special Guest at the 5th Clan Moderatorial Forum held at the Ramseyer Training Centre, Abetifi, Rev. Aboagye-Danquah reminded participants that “all the groups belong to the church and hence your allegiance should be geared towards the activities of the Church.”
He added, “I expect you all to think of the larger interest of the church and to cooperate amongst yourselves as groups rather than the interests of your individual groups.” He acknowledged the role of both generational and inter-generational groups in the life of the church.
The generational groups include the Children’s Service, Junior Youth, Young People’s Guild, Young Adults’ Fellowship, Women’s Fellowship, and Men’s Fellowship, while inter-generational groups comprise the Singing Bands Union, Church Choir, and the Presbyterian Brigades Association.
According to Rev David Aboagye-Danquah, these groups were formed with specific purposes, vision, and mission, and must complement and support each other for the healthy growth of the entire Church. He charged the CLAN leaders to focus on nurture and discipleship, stressing, “As leaders I charge you to be disciple makers.”
He encouraged all groups to support ongoing projects such as the Kutunse project, and to contribute actively to the bicentennial celebration. He outlined a series of activities planned for the 200th anniversary, including a bicentennial quiz competition for Children’s Service, a heritage trail, academic conferences, blood donation drives, youth debates, rallies, and a Presbyterian Church Day with flag hoisting across institutions.
These events, he said, are designed to deepen discipleship, celebrate heritage, and strengthen unity across the church.
