The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, has underscored the critical role of generational groups in strengthening discipleship and expanding the outreach capacity of the Church.
In a speech read for him by Kwahu Presbytery Chairperson, Rev. Joshua Bossman Ohene at the 5th CLAN Moderatorial Forum at Abetifi‑Kwahu, the Moderator noted that the growth of every church depends on its ability to reach out, and that outreach capacity is directly tied to the depth of discipleship.
“Discipleship within the PCG has largely revolved around the Generational Groups. That makes the Generational Groups key players in the development of capacity for reaching out with the gospel,” he said.
The Moderator stated the need for intentional reflection on the functions of these groups and called for greater equipping to meet the discipleship needs of the Church. He pointed to Agenda 2 Million as a wake‑up call for the PCG to become deliberate in discipleship, urging groups to integrate its vision into all their activities, including conferences, rallies, and meetings.
“Our intentionality will be fruitful through our collective effort towards equipping every member for soul winning,” he stated, adding that it was his prayer that the groups increasingly become places for nurturing members into true disciples who see soul winning as a way of life.
The Moderator’s call reinforced the centrality of discipleship in the mission of the PCG, positioning generational groups as vital agents for growth and outreach in the years ahead.
