The Presbyterian Church of Ghana Unveils 200th Anniversary Logo

In a momentous ceremony of the Launch of the Bicentennial Anniversary Celebration held at the Christiansborg Castle in Osu, the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) unveiled the official logo to commemorate its 200th anniversary. The anniversary logo was designed by Rev. Samuel Asare Koranteng of the Akuapem Presbytery. The event, which was attended by thousands of people including the President of the Republic, H. E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, host of Presbyterian Clergy, church leaders, dignitaries, and members from across the nation, marked the beginning of a 4-year-long celebration of two centuries of faith, growth, and service.

A Symbol of Legacy and Progress

The newly revealed logo blends symbolism and modern design, reflecting the church’s rich history and vision for the future. At the heart of the design is the iconic Presbyterian logo, encircled by elements that represent unity, continuity, and resilience. The “200” prominently featured in the design represents the Bi-Centenary of the Church [1828-2028], the two ‘2’ interlocking the zeros ’00’ symbolizes unity, continuity, and interconnectedness. The lorel reafs – the green, symbolizes victory, achievements, and the church’s endearing legacy over the years. The red ribbon signifies the anniversary nature of the celebration indicating joy. The open Bible at the base symbolizes the foundation of the Church in God’s word and its focus on Biblical teaching as a life for guidance and ministry with the green “1828-2028” is an indication of the period of the 2 Centeries to the glory of God.

The theme for the anniversary, “PCG@200: Celebrating God’s Faithfulness and Impacting Generations through the Gospel” encapsulates the essence of the church’s mission over the past two centuries. According to the Moderator of the General Assembly, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, the logo is “a testament to God’s grace and the unwavering commitment of generations of Presbyterians who have dedicated themselves to building both the church and the nation.”

Celebrating 200 Years of Impact

The Presbyterian Church of Ghana traces its origins to 1828 when the Basel Mission began its first mission station in Osu. Over the years, the church has grown into one of the largest Christian denominations in Ghana, with a strong presence in education, healthcare, agriculture, and social development. Its contributions include founding some of the nation’s most prestigious schools and hospitals, as well as advocating for social justice and national unity.

 

Looking to the Future

As the Presbyterian Church of Ghana celebrates this significant milestone, it also reaffirms its commitment to being a beacon of hope and transformation. “This logo is not just a celebration of the past; it’s a call to action for the future,” said, the Clerk of the General Assembly, Rev. Dr. Godwin Nii Noi Odonkor. “It reminds us of our responsibility to adapt to the changing times while staying true to our core values.”

The unveiling of the 200th-anniversary logo is a significant step in what promises to be a memorable 4-year long celebration for the Presbyterian Church of Ghana and its members. It stands as a powerful symbol of faith, resilience, and the enduring impact of the church on both spiritual and national development.
