Presbyterian Church of Ghana Launches National Evangelism with a Call to Faithful Stewardship

The Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) has officially launched the National Evangelism under the theme, “Celebrating our Heritage: Faithfulness in Stewardship.” The grand event, which took place at Ebenezer Congregation, Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Presbytery on Sunday March 16, 2025, gathered a large gathering of Ministers, Catechists, Presbyters, and other church leaders, and Congregants.

Delivering the sermon for the occasion, The Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, emphasized the Church’s responsibility to remain faithful stewards of the Gospel. Drawing from Genesis 2:7-15, 1 Corinthians 4:2, and Luke 16:1-13, he underscored the biblical call to accountability in managing God’s resources, particularly in spreading the Good News.

“As stewards we should be mindful that, all that we are and all that we have are gifts from God to be used generously and responsibly to honour God.”

The Moderator further elaborated the message with three principles of stewardship as; 1. Ownership, 2. Accountability and 3. Rewards. He explained with the examples from the transition of political power in the country where former government official are being called to account for their stewardship. “There is nothing wrong in being called to account for your stewardship” he charged.

“God has entrusted us with His Word, and as faithful stewards, we must ensure that the Gospel reaches the ends of the earth. Evangelism is not an option; it is our sacred duty,” said, the Moderator.

Politicization of ‘Galamsey’ Menace

On the menace of ‘Galamsey’ in the country, Rt. Rev. Dr. Opare Kwakye mentioned that, ‘Galamsey’ is destroying the country in diverse ways yet our conscience have been clouded with politics in dealing with this canker. This is irresponsible stewardship. He cited a news item indicating that Switzerland is contemplating ceasing the importation of cocoa from Ghana. This is due to some metal substances in our cocoa because of the ‘Galamsey’ mence.

He bemoaned that, people who in opposition spoke against the act and even tagged the then president as “’Galamsey’ President” are now saying, “No one should call on the current President to stop ‘Galamsey’ in the country.” This, he finds as absurd because it not about who is in power but about the nation because we will account for our actions on the environment, faithful stewards.

He added that, we have divided our country into two. It obvious to learn now that we have NDC Ghanaians and NPP Ghanaians; NDC police and NPP police; NDC civil servants and NPP civil servants etc. This national division on party line will not be in the positive interest of our nation.

A Call to Action

The Moderator concluded his sermon with a passionate call for every Presbyterian to embrace evangelism as a personal mission. He urged all members—young and old—to actively engage in sharing Christ and supporting the Church’s evangelistic initiatives: Agenda 2 Million.
