The Presbyterian Church of Ghana’s Three-Day National Crusade in Sunyani: A Spiritual Awakening
The Presbyterian Church of Ghana held a powerful three-day National Crusade at the Sunyani Jubilee Park, located in the Brong Ahafo Presbytery. The event, which ran from March 12-14, 2024, drew thousands of attendees from across the region and beyond, with the main speaker for the crusade, Rev. Abraham Opoku Baffour, delivering inspiring messages of faith, hope, and salvation on the theme: “Proclaiming Christ, Transforming Lives” (2 Cor. 5:17-20; Rom. 1:16; Luke 4:18-19; Acts 4:12).
Moderator’s Opening Message
Opening the crusade on the first day, the Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana indicated that, the meeting is not about us but solely about Christ Jesus.
Touching on the rich heritage of PCG, the Moderator added that,
“We have met here because of our heritage, and our heritage is open-air crusade.”
Reflecting on the historic legacy of the Church and the undeniable impact in the nation. He added,
“If there is Christianity in all the 16 regions of our country today, it is because many learned from the practices of the Basel Missionaries.”
Moderator Opare Kwakye engaged the world on Sompa FM, PCGTV, Facebook and Youtube: Presby Offical to discuss the focus and purpose of the Crusade as well as the rich heritage of PCG. He indicated that the Presbyterian Church of Ghana has been the pacesetters in many areas of the nation; education, health, trading, agriculture and even football.
The crusade, organized by the Church, hosted by the Brong Ahafo Presbytery, was designed to ignite spiritual renewal and revival within the Presbyterian community and also created the public awareness of power of God in the Church. It was a programme designed to reach the unreached and save the unsaved souls for God. Participants experienced a transformative encounter with God. The Jubilee Park, a central location in Sunyani, was transformed into a vibrant hub of worship, prayer, and reflection, as people gathered to receive the word of God.
The crusade was also broadcast live on PCGTV, Sompa FM – Sunyani, Facebook and YouTube handles of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana. The coverage covered thousands both in-person and online participants.
Transforming Lives
Rev. Abraham Opoku Baffour, the main speaker of the crusade, is Minister of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana. His engaging and thought-provoking messages were centered on theme: Proclaiming Christ, Transforming Lives: repentance, spiritual renewal, divine restoration, and living a Christ-centered life in today’s world. With his deep knowledge of scripture and his passion for sharing the gospel, Rev. Opoku Baffour inspired the crowd, encouraging them to take a bold stand for their faith and to pursue a closer relationship with Christ.
Speaking from Luke 8:26-39 he indicated that, “When we encounter Christ, we receive deliverance, settlement, sound mind, and beauty of covering.”
Rev. Opoku Baffour’s messages throughout the three-day event were rich with biblical teachings and practical applications for everyday living. One of the key points of his preaching was the call to personal transformation, urging attendees to move beyond mere religious rituals and to live out their faith in a genuine and impactful way.
Beyond the powerful preaching, the three-day event also featured times of prayer, adoration, praise, deliverance, and healing. People of special prayer needs: salvation, healing, and deliverance were invited for prayers. The atmosphere of the crusade was charged with the presence of God as many individuals experienced breakthroughs in various aspects of their lives.
As part of the crusade, there were special sessions dedicated to praying for the nation, the church, and the community. Ministering at this crusade were, ACP Kofi Sarpong, Yaa Baby and Nana Ama Sika with the able support of the Praise Team of the Brong Ahafo Presbytery.
A Lasting Impact
As the curtain of the National Crusade was drawn, it was clear that the event had left a lasting spiritual impact on all who participated and the global community on the commitment of PCG to Proclaiming Christ, Transforming Lives. The powerful sermons, uplifting praises and adorations, and fervent prayer times created an environment where believers were able to draw closer to God and strengthen their commitment to living a life of faith.
The influence of this National Crusade will continue to reverberate throughout the Brong Ahafo Presbytery and beyond as participants carry the message of hope and transformation back to their communities.
The Presbyterian Church of Ghana, through events like this crusade, will continues to provide opportunities for believers to grow in their faith and to be agents of transformation in a world that desperately needs the light of Christ.
