Moderator Pays Courtesy Call on Minister for Education

The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, has paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, at the Ministry of Education in Accra. The visit was part of the Church’s ongoing efforts to deepen collaboration with key stakeholders in national development, particularly in the area of education.

Hon. Haruna Iddrisu with his deputy and directors warmly welcomed the Moderator and his entourage, expressing his appreciation for the significant contributions of the Presbyterian Church to education in Ghana. He fondly recalled his own formative years as a Presbyterian student in Tamale, highlighting the discipline and academic brilliance instilled in him during that period. The Minister emphasized the vital role of faith-based institutions in shaping the moral and academic fabric of the country.

During the meeting, Rt. Rev. Dr. Opare Kwakye congratulated the Minister to the Ministry of Education and raised some key issues of concern with the him. First, he invited the Minister the 2025 Moderator’s Educational Consultation for the Presbyterian Schools on July 23, 2025. He further underscored the need for intentional support for mission schools, highlighting Aburi and Suhum Senior High which have both been inflicted with rainstorm disaster. At Aburi Senior High, the Moderator informed the Minister about the need of beds for their new Boys’ Dormitory. A similar support also was tabled for Agona Nsabaa Presbyterian Senior High. Finally, he urged the government to recognize and protect the unique identity and heritage of faith-based schools in the country.

The discussions ended on a hopeful note, both parties expressing a shared commitment to strengthening the relationship between the Church and the state for the betterment of Ghana’s education system. The Minister assured the Moderator of his willingness to consider the Church’s proposals and work together to promote quality and inclusive education nationwide.
