The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye has called on the feuding factions in conflicts that have rocked Bawku in the Upper East Region and Nkwanta in the Oti Region to give peace a chance.
He said the violent stalemate has led to the loss of several lives and property in these communities, hence the need to ease tensions.
“As a Church, it has affected not only our worship and evangelistic life, but also the quality of social service delivery, especially at the Presbyterian Hospital, Bawku, and the Presbyterian Nurses and Midwifery Training College,”
said the Moderator of the PCG.
The Moderator made the call at the 25th General Assembly of the PCG at Kwahu-Nkwatia. He prayed for the people of Bawku, Nkwanta, and the entire nation, for peaceful coexistence, urging all to support the mediation process at the leadership of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene.
“We appreciate the government’s efforts to resolve these conflicts, especially the one in Bawku which in recent times, is assuming a national dimension, where persons in different parts of the country are murdered and several live in fear,”
said the Moderator, who commended President John Mahama for initiating a National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving since his inauguration and assumption of the reins of power.
“We salute him for acknowledging the hand of the Lord upon the nation and keeping our nation together in relative peace. We continue to pray for him and his government to lead us in righteousness and integrity” he added.
