The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, brought his weeklong pastoral visit to the Western Presbytery to a close with a divine service at the Trinity Congregation, Takoradi, on Sunday. The packed auditorium bore witness to a heartfelt sermon and reflections on the journey across the Presbytery.
Gratitude and Reflections on the Visit
In his opening remarks, the Moderator expressed deep appreciation for the warm reception and engagement he received throughout the visit. “This week has opened my eyes to the size and nature of the Western Presbytery,” he said. “It has given me deeper insights into the work being done by our Agents, ministers, catechists, and congregants.”
He thanked the Presbytery Chairperson, Rev. Dr. Joseph Apea Asamoah, and all district leaders for their dedication and hospitality, noting that the interactions had been both enlightening and encouraging.
Bicentennial, Agenda 2Million, and Kutunse Project
Reiterating key themes from his tour, Rt. Rev. Dr. Opare Kwakye called on the Church to rally behind the Bicentennial Anniversary celebrations. “We’re preparing to celebrate 200 years of the Church. Everyone must be part of it,” he declared.
He also emphasised the importance of Agenda 2Million, the Church’s strategic growth initiative, and highlighted the global mission of the PCG. “Our mission goes beyond the borders of this country,” he said, urging congregants to support evangelism and church planting efforts abroad.
On the Kutunse Project, the Moderator expressed faith in its completion, calling for continued financial and prayerful support. “We believe God that Kutunse will be completed,” he affirmed.
Sermon: “Do Not Pitch Your Tent Towards Sodom”
In his sermon based on Genesis 13:1–12, the Moderator warned against the allure of superficial beauty and moral compromise. “Sometimes things may look beautiful and good,” he said. “Lot walked by sight and chose the luxuriant part. He pitched his camp toward Sodom—a symbol of wickedness.”
He cautioned that proximity to sin often leads to entanglement, urging the congregation to anchor their lives in Christ. “Pitching your tent near Sodom is the beginning of living there,” he warned. “Pitch yourself to Jesus. God does not want us to pitch our tent at Sodom.”
The Moderator encouraged all present to remain faithful to God and to serve the Church with integrity and purpose. His final message echoed the spiritual and strategic themes of the week: unity, growth, and unwavering commitment to the foundation laid by Jesus Christ.
