In a stirring and frank message to the government and the Ghanaian public, the newly inducted Clerk of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), Rev. David Aboagye-Danquah, has raised alarm over the country’s worsening water turbidity levels, describing them as the highest in Africa.

Speaking at his induction service held at the Most Holy Trinity Congregation, Community 18, Tema, Rev. Aboagye-Danquah referenced Luke 18:1–8 to highlight the destructive impact of illegal mining practices, popularly known as galamsey. He noted that the issue has become a national conversation: “There is talk on galamsey everywhere. Everyone is talking about it.”

He recalled the PCG’s 4th Public Lecture, which addressed the menace, stressing that no well-meaning Ghanaian can remain silent while water bodies are being destroyed. “Ghanaians are not interested in which political party has polluted our water bodies the most,” he said.

“Ghanaians want drastic solutions to what poses an existential threat. Ghanaians want solutions.” Rev. David Aboagye-Danquah emphasised that the Church, through its prophetic voice, will continue to call attention to issues that threaten national survival. He urged leaders to act decisively.
