The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, has called on Ghanaians to embrace moral renewal and decisive action against pressing social and environmental challenges in his 2025 Christmas message.

In his Christmas message to the nation and the world at large, he reminded believers that “Christmas is not merely a season of celebration as is now commonly known; it is the affirmation of God’s decisive intervention in human history.” He urged Christians to recommit themselves to being “salt and light of the earth,” living as agents of justice, mercy, and humility.

Turning to national concerns, the Moderator warned that Ghana stands at a defining crossroads. He cited “the destructive persistence of galamsey, the degradation of forests and water bodies, moral decline among the youth, widespread unemployment, corruption in high places, and the misuse of digital platforms to enable exploitation and injustice” as urgent challenges requiring coordinated action.

He issued a prophetic charge to government and its agencies, urging them to demonstrate unwavering political will. “I urge you to completely and decisively eradicate galamsey and all forms of illegal mining,” he said, assuring that the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, with nearly two million members, stands resolutely behind legitimate efforts to address this national canker.

The Moderator further appealed to Parliament and the Judiciary to uphold the constitution and strengthen collaboration for national development. He also urged the media, civil society, and industry to intensify constructive advocacy, expose wrongdoing, and support lawful initiatives. “Together, let us turn our present situation into testimonies of national renewal,” he declared.
