The National Directorate of Development and Social Services of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) has projected that attendance at this year’s ‘Jesus Christmas Street Party’ will surpass previous records as the event rolls out across Presbyteries this weekend.

In 2024, the initiative had significant numbers, with more than 173,000 children fed both physically and spiritually during the festive season. This represented a remarkable increase of 40,430 beneficiaries compared to the 132,740 recorded in 2023.

Launched in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Jesus Christmas Street Party has grown into a nationwide outreach programme, bringing joy, nourishment, and the Word of God to deprived communities. Organisers believe that this year’s numbers will set a new record.

Speaking at the Ga Presbytery’s celebration, which was held at three different stations within the Teshie District, the Director of Development and Social Services at PCG, Mrs. Rebecca Teiko Sabah, underscored the spiritual and social impact of the programme. “Christmas is a time to celebrate God’s love for the world through Jesus’s birth. It is also a time for spiritual reflection on the foundations of our Christian faith,” she said.

Mrs. Sabah explained that the programme’s objectives include sharing the Word of God with children in deprived communities, fostering interaction between PCG leadership and local congregations, and promoting the Church’s image and outreach goals. “This initiative directly supports the achievement of PCG’s Agenda 2million by reaching out to children and their families in underserved areas,” she noted.

The 2024 outreach saw impressive participation across all 19 Presbyteries. Notable figures included Ga Presbytery (21,915 children), Asante Presbytery (21,362), Ga West (19,620), and Akuapem (17,534). Other regions such as Western, Kwahu, West Brong, and Sekyere also recorded significant numbers.

With Presbyteries nationwide preparing to host their events this year, expectations are high that this year’s ‘Jesus Christmas Street Party’ will once again set new records, reinforcing the PCG’s commitment to holistic ministry.
