On the night of 31st December 2025, the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, accompanied by his family and several officers of the church attended the Watch Night Service of six congregations in the Asante Presbytery.
The Moderator’s entourage comprised his family – wife Mrs. Benedicta Kwakye and two of their daughters; the Asante Presbytery Chairperson, Rev. Samuel Ahima Yeboah, his Personal Assistant, Rev. Carl Henry Clerk; national Public Relations Officer (P. R. O), Mr. Jerome Otchere, and the Asante Presbytery P. R. O., Rev. Bernard Gyimah Antwi.
The entourage were within the Kumasi metropolis for three hours, moving from one congregation to the other. Asante Presbytery chairperson, Rev. Samuel Ahima Yeboah called the tour “historic” in the Presbytery. Here is a report of the Moderator’s 31st December 2025 Watch Night Service visit.
Bantama, Peyer Congregation – Arriving at 9pm, the Moderator, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye thanked God for the lives of congregants and encouraged them to depend solely on God, be truthful and work hard for their personal development, the growth of the church and Ghana as a whole. He charged them to eschew every form of corruption, believing that the year 2026 will be better than 2025.
Ebenezer Congregation, Asawasi – Greeted by cheerful rounds of applause, the Moderator entered the chapel at about 9:30pm. He acknowledged their warm reception and observed that God has been good to the church and Ghana. He stated that everything may not have been perfect but God through His abiding mercy and grace has blessed everyone. He called for a change of mindset, adding that that would trigger promotion and God’s blessing.
Yennyawoso Congregation – The Moderator was welcomed into the chapel with nice, polished wooden-ceiling at about 10pm. He thanked God for the experiences of 2025, praying that, 2026 will be good for the congregants, the church, and the nation. He encouraged the congregation to be prayerful and stand for Christ everywhere. He also asked for prayers for the General Assembly office, the General Assembly Clerk, PCG members and their family.
Grace Congregation, Suame – When the Moderator arrived at about 10:45pm, the congregation was immersed in intense prayers, and his entourage also joined the prayer session before he addressed the expectant congregants. He encouraged them to serve God well by being committed to prayer and Bible study, praying that the New Year will bring growth and prosperity to their lives and the church.
Trinity Congregation, Abrepo – The chapel was lit with joy and praise for God when the Moderator entered at about 11:10pm. The Moderator urged them to stay committed to Christ, always ensuring that their lives glorify God. He thanked God for His grace on the church and the lives of congregants, adding that, only God was worth worshipping.
Mount Olives, Patasi – From Abrepo to Patasi, the Moderator’s entourage was hard press for time as they wanted to arrive at Patasi before midnight. Thankfully, the entourage stepped into the chapel as midnight broke. The excitement of congregants reached the heavens. The New Year, 2026 was here. It arrived to praise and celebration.
In his address, the Moderator acknowledged the former Moderator, Very Rev. Dr. Sam Prempeh, who was in attendance. The Moderator shared his expectations saying that God would bless the church, congregants, and Ghanaians as we worked hard. He urged the congregation to stay together and pray, study the Bible, and remain active in church.
Conclusion – The Watch Night Services across Kumasi were filled with praise, thanksgiving, and prayers, as congregants celebrated God’s faithfulness in 2025 and looked forward with hope to 2026. The Moderator’s presence and message of faith and hard work inspired worshippers to embrace 2026 with renewed commitment to Christ.
As hymns of joy and shouts of praise filled the night, the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, led by the Moderator, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, entered 2026 with gratitude to God and confidence in His unfailing care.
