The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, has charged congregants and Ghanaians as a whole to begin the year 2026 with a “new song of praise” to God — not only in worship but also in their mindset, attitude, and daily lives.
Preaching at the New Year’s Day Service at Ramseyer Congregation, Adum, Kumasi, where His Royal Majesty, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, was in attendance, the Moderator urged worshippers to let go of songs of gloom and complaints and instead embrace songs of appreciation and hard work.
Quoting Psalm 96, he declared: “We should sing a new song to the Lord. God inhabits the praise of His children, and even when things may not be good, in our songs of praise God will be glorified and our hindrances and obstacles will be removed.”
The Moderator expressed gratitude to the Asantehene for honouring the service with his presence, describing it as a privilege for the PCG to worship alongside the King on the first day of the year for over a decade now. In a glowing tribute, the Moderator acknowledged the Asantehene’s status as a unifying figure in Ghana and beyond, referring to his mediation efforts in the Bawku conflict.
Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye noted that the Asantehene’s leadership continues to be a blessing to the nation. “In him, Ghana has lots of blessings,” he stated. The Moderator also thanked the Asante Presbytery for ensuring that the New Year’s Day service remains a cherished tradition. He further applauded the Ramseyer Congregation for their dedication and progress in developing their chapel.
The Moderator hoped that by the time of the Ramseyer Congregation’s anniversary later this year, the beautiful building would be completed or made more elegant, reflecting their commitment to God’s work.
Highlighting the PCG’s bicentennial anniversary, the Moderator touched on the Agenda 2million and the Kutunse Project, urging the Asante Presbytery to continue supporting these initiatives which are central to the PCG’s mission and growth.
With the Asantehene’s presence and the Moderator’s charge to sing a new song of praise, worshippers left Ramseyer Congregation inspired to embrace the new year with renewed faith and determination to glorify God in every aspect of their lives.
