Beautiful welcome for Moderator in Melbourne
The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, has arrived in Melbourne, Victoria State, Australia, to a beautiful and spirited welcome, marking the third lap of his ten-day pastoral visit to the North America–Australia Presbytery (NAAP).
The Moderator was warmly received at the airport by the Minister-in-charge of Hope Congregation, Rev. Emmanuel Kwaku Barima, Catechist Andy Bernard Owusu Gyimah of Calvary Congregation, and a cross-section of leaders from Melbourne congregations.
Their presence reflected the joy and anticipation of the PCG family in Victoria, eager to host the Moderator and share fellowship during this historic pastoral tour. This latest stop follows earlier engagements in Sydney and Perth. In Sydney, the Moderator was officially welcomed at the Manse and met with leaders of Trinity and Ebenezer congregations, setting the tone for his pastoral mission.
He then travelled nearly 4,000 kilometres west to Perth, where he was received by the Grace Worship Centre congregation under the leadership of Rev. Ing. Stephen Asante Domfeh and Rev. Oparebea Ansah. There, he worshipped with members and encouraged them to remain steadfast in faith, underscoring the PCG’s commitment to nurturing diaspora congregations across Australia.
Melbourne, known as Australia’s cultural capital, with its vibrant arts scene, diverse communities, and iconic landmarks such as Federation Square and the Yarra River, provides a fitting backdrop for the Moderator’s visit. His presence is expected to inspire congregants, strengthen pastoral ties, and reaffirm the PCG’s mission of spreading the gospel and nurturing discipleship across continents.
The Moderator has been on this pastoral visit with the NAAP Chairperson, Rev. Christian Bekoe Appenteng, the Australia District Minister, Rev. Kwadwo Osei-Bonsu, and Mrs. Benedicta Kwakye, wife of the Moderator. Together, they continue to build bridges with diaspora communities, ensuring that Presbyterians everywhere remain connected to the life and mission of the Church.
The Melbourne congregations are preparing for a weekend of worship and fellowship with the Moderator, a moment that promises to deepen unity, renew commitment, and celebrate the PCG’s growing presence in Australia.
