The Ga West Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) has celebrated a significant milestone with a 10th Anniversary Lecture, climaxing a decade of faithful ministry, growth, and service. The lecture was delivered by the Very Rev. Prof. Joseph O. Yeboah Mante, a distinguished theologian, church administrator, and former Moderator of the General Assembly of the PCG.
Drawing extensively from Scripture, church history, and contemporary missional realities, Prof. Mante’s address offered both retrospective reflection and forward-looking guidance for the Presbytery as it journeys into its next decade.
In his address, he highlighted the sovereign faithfulness of God as the foundation upon which the Ga West Presbytery has been built. He noted that the formation of the Presbytery ten years ago was not merely an administrative exercise, but a missional response to the growing ecclesial needs of a rapidly expanding geographical and socio-cultural context.
Commending the Presbytery for its resilience, evangelistic expansion, and institutional consolidation, he emphasized that anniversaries in the life of the Church are moments for thanksgiving, sober reflection, and renewed commitment.
Using biblical motifs of remembrance, stewardship, and mission, Prof. Mante called the Church to remain theologically grounded and missionally relevant. He stressed that the Presbyterian identity must continue to be shaped by sound doctrine rooted in Scripture, holistic mission that integrates evangelism, social responsibility, and justice, and strong leadership anchored in humility, accountability, and service.
He further challenged ministers and church leaders to guard against complacency, warning that institutional success without spiritual vitality poses a risk to the Church’s witness. A major strand of the lecture focused on leadership and governance within the Presbytery. He urged Sessions, Presbyteries, and leadership bodies to model Christ-like leadership, promote transparency, and intentionally mentor younger ministers and lay leaders.
He also spoke to emerging challenges confronting the Church in the 21st century—urbanization, digital culture, generational shifts, and moral complexity—calling on the Ga West Presbytery to be adaptive without losing its confessional and Reformed foundations.
As the Presbytery enters its second decade, Prof. Mante concluded with a clarion call to renewed faithfulness, urging the Church to deepen discipleship and Christian formation, strengthen unity among congregations and leadership, and engage society prophetically with love, truth, and courage. He reminded the gathering that the future of the Church is secured not by structures alone, but by obedience to God’s mission.
The Ga West Presbytery expressed profound appreciation to Prof. Mante for his insightful and timely address, as well as to all founding fathers, ministers, elders, and congregations whose sacrifices have sustained the Presbytery over the past ten years.
