The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Dr Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye has inaugurated the upgraded Presbyterian Hospital in Garu, marking a new chapter in the facility’s 51‑year history.
Established in 1975 as a health post and later a health centre, the facility now serves as a hospital providing care not only to Garu but also to neighbouring districts and cross‑border patients from Togo and Burkina Faso.
PCG currently operates 62 health facilities across 13 regions, with a workforce of 4,000+ staff and 1,600 beds. The Garu hospital now joins Assin Praso and Aburi as facilities recently upgraded to hospital status.
The Moderator underscored PCG’s role as a major player in Ghana’s health sector, offering services in internal medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics, psychiatry, ophthalmology, dentistry, and more.
He reiterated the church’s commitment to supporting government efforts toward Universal Health Coverage by 2030, assuring collaboration with the Ministry of Health to strengthen healthcare delivery nationwide.
