At the dedication of the Presbyterian Agriculture Services (PAS) office complex in Garu, the Moderator of the General Assembly, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, has celebrated the Church’s nearly 200‑year legacy in agriculture.
The Moderator recalled how Basel missionaries introduced crops such as cocoa, coffee, pineapple, and citrus to the Gold Coast, laying the foundation for Ghana’s agricultural economy, noting that the PCG continues to champion agricultural productivity, climate resilience, and rural development.
In 2025 alone, 15,000 women were supported with seeds and organic fertilizers, 40,000 smallholder farmers were trained in climate‑smart technologies (with an 85% adoption rate), and 52 motorized tricycles were distributed to Shea Cooperatives across northern Ghana. With AGRA’s support, 43,000 young farmers were onboarded onto digital platforms for e‑extension and e‑commerce, including 10,000 from Garu.
Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye stated that these interventions benefit all smallholder farmers, regardless of religion or background, and praised PAS Garu for its pioneering role in livelihood empowerment.
