Yorogo Eye Centre expanded into full hospital
The Presbyterian Health Services-North has officially transformed the Presbyterian Regional Eye Centre (PREC) in Yorogo, Bolgatanga Municipality, into a comprehensive healthcare facility.
Once known solely for specialised ophthalmic care, the centre now boasts of a maternity ward, labour ward, operating theatre, male and female inpatient wards, antenatal services, child welfare clinics, consulting rooms, and a functional laboratory.
Speaking at the dedication ceremony, the Acting General Manager, Dr. Dennis Daliri, stated that the expansion was driven by the growing health needs of the community. He noted that patients often presented with systemic conditions beyond eye care, requiring referrals to other hospitals.
The new facilities will reduce delays in accessing care, particularly for pregnant women, children, and the elderly, he said. Dr. Daliri noted that this transformation aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 3, which calls for ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all ages.
He described the new blocks as “enduring symbols of hope, healing, and renewed commitment to improving the health of our people.”
