In a rallying call on the second day of his Brong Ahafo Presbytery visit, the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, passionately appealed to congregants to gear up for the Church’s Bicentennial Anniversary in 2028.
He said preparations are already underway for the climax of the anniversary in December 2028, with several activities taking place ahead of the celebration. Early missionaries of the Church first landed on the Gold Coast in 1828, making December 2028 the Fourth Jubilee—the fourth cycle of 50 years since the establishment of the PCG.
At Wenchi, where the Moderator was warmly welcomed by ministers and congregants, he reminded the congregation that belonging to the PCG is both a privilege and a blessing. He urged members to deepen their love for God and the Church. He highlighted the significance of the Bicentennial Anniversary, describing it as the Fourth Jubilee since 1828, and encouraged members to support the Kutunse project and Agenda 2 Million, while calling for unity, forgiveness, and Christ‑centered living.
At Kabrono in the Banda District, the Moderator’s entry was spectacular, as he became the first Moderator of the General Assembly to set foot in the community. Welcomed by traditional leaders, congregants, and school children, he commended members for their steadfast faith and urged them to avoid divisions.
He expressed gratitude to the Trinity Congregation for completing its manse, a project to which he and his family contributed over GH₵100,000. The manse was dedicated to the glory of God. He reminded members of the upcoming Bicentennial Anniversary, encouraged them to embrace Agenda 2 Million by winning souls for Christ, and appealed for support towards the Kutunse project.
In the Nsawkaw District, the Moderator was received with enthusiasm. Addressing the gathering, he stressed the sacred significance of the Bicentennial Anniversary and cautioned against division, rivalry, and hatred. He urged members to reflect maturity in their faith and live exemplary lives that attract others to Christ.
At Techiman, the Moderator noted the growth of the District, which was carved out of Wenchi in 1993 and now has eight congregations and seven preaching points with a membership of 5,134. Tuobodom District has 4,488 members, while Techiman South has 2,599, with four new preaching points established in the past two years. He commended the Presbytery’s leadership for their dynamism and growth, attributing it to God’s grace.
He spoke passionately about the Bicentennial Anniversary, urging members to acquire commemorative souvenirs such as the anniversary cloth and the Bicentennial Legacy Bible, translated into Ga, Dangme, Akuapem Twi, and Asante Twi. He asked for support for the Kutunse project and advised members to uphold Christian values of love, peace, and unity.
Throughout his pastoral journey on the second day, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye consistently emphasised unity, evangelism, and preparation for the Bicentennial Anniversary. His messages of encouragement, coupled with his personal contributions to projects, left the congregations visited strengthened and renewed in their commitment to the mission of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.
