In a fatherly and inspiring address, the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, has urged students of Bechem Presbyterian Senior High School (PRESEC) to carry the flag of Jesus wherever they go. His remarks came during a pastoral visit to the school this week.
Drawing from the biblical account of Exodus, the Moderator reminded students that the solutions to many of life’s challenges lie within their own hands. He encouraged them to embrace discipline, focus, and personal responsibility, stressing that success is largely determined by their effort and determination.
He cautioned against distractions, especially romantic relationships, urging them to prioritise their academic journey at this stage of life. Sharing his personal testimony, the Moderator recounted his encounter with Christ at age 14 and encouraged students to make a personal commitment to Jesus. “Wherever you go, you carry the flag of Jesus. Give your life to Him and represent Him well,” he said, affirming their worth and potential to achieve greatness.
The Headmistress, Ms. Nancy Arthur, highlighted the school’s commitment to discipline as a core Presbyterian value. She shared recent developments, including the construction of a semi-detached bungalow and financial support for pavement works— GHS15,000 from the Head Office andGHS10,000 each from the Brong Ahafo and Asante Presbyteries.
She appealed to the church, through the Moderator, for support to complete a stalled 12-unit classroom block, citing rising student enrollment and deteriorating infrastructure. She noted that some balustrades pose safety risks and called for urgent rehabilitation to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment.
The Moderator assured the school of the church’s continued support and encouraged students to remain joyful, prayerful, and committed to their studies and faith.
