Rev. Bright Agyekum Kobea has been elected as the 9th substantive Chairperson of the Asante Akyem Presbytery, marking a significant milestone in the life and leadership of the Presbytery. The election took place during the 37th Presbytery Session held at the PCG Ebenezer Congregation, Agogo, on Friday, 10th April 2026.

The Session opened under the leadership of Acting Chairperson, Rev. Mavis Hannah Yeboah, who has steered the Presbytery following the elevation of the former Chairperson, Rev. Dr. David Aboagye Danquah, to the office of Clerk of the General Assembly.

Delegates, observers, and distinguished guests from sister churches and traditional authorities gathered in an atmosphere filled with prayer, unity, and anticipation.

In keeping with the constitutional provisions of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, the Clerk of the General Assembly earlier published a list of 177 qualified ordained ministers worldwide, ensuring a transparent and credible electoral process.

A total of 59 accredited delegates participated in the election, with 58 casting their votes in the first round. Rev. Bright Agyekum Kobea received 40 votes, Rev. Michael Badu secured 15, Rev. Asamoah Boateng had one, and Rev. Emmanuel Obour received two.

As no candidate attained the required 70 percent threshold, a run‑off became necessary. Rev. Michael Badu voluntarily stepped down, paving the way for a direct contest between Rev. Kobea and Rev. Obour. With all 59 delegates voting in the run‑off, Rev. Bright Agyekum Kobea secured an overwhelming victory with 56 votes, representing 94.9 percent, becoming the duly elected Chairperson of the Asante Akyem Presbytery.

The election was conducted in a spirit of orderliness and spiritual discernment, reflecting the Presbytery’s commitment to good governance and reliance on the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Delegates expressed confidence that the new Chairperson will provide visionary leadership to advance the mission, witness, and administrative life of the Presbytery.

The Presbytery extends its warmest congratulations to Chairperson‑Elect Rev. Bright Agyekum Kobea and prays for a fruitful and impactful tenure.
