PCG social services give great community support – GPCC
The General Secretary of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC), Apostle Immanuel Tettey, has commended the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) for its longstanding commitment to social development through its Development and Social Services (DSS) directorate.
He noted that as the oldest continuously existing church in Ghana, the PCG has made remarkable contributions to national development. “Your social services—schools and hospitals, for example—give great community support. It gives the Church relevance,” Apostle Tettey stated.
He made the remarks during an interaction with the Clerk of the General Assembly, Rev. David Aboagye‑Danquah, who paid a courtesy visit to the GPCC Secretariat at East Legon, Accra, on Tuesday.
Apostle Tettey encouraged the PCG to remain connected to the communities it serves. “As a church, we must not be detached from the communities where we are located. Do not abandon your tradition of providing education, health, and other essential services. Your educational tradition is second to none,” he emphasised.
He also stated the Council’s ongoing efforts to expand its operations. “GPCC is big in terms of its constituency, and we have plans to build a new, larger secretariat,” he said, adding that the Council is adapting to the digital age. “We find ourselves in the internet age, so we do a lot of online work.”
Reflecting on inter‑church collaboration, Apostle Tettey noted that although doctrinal differences may exist, there is much to learn from the PCG. “Sometimes the difference between us and the Presbyterian Church of Ghana is in doctrine, but we learn from you.”
Responding, Rev. Aboagye‑Danquah expressed appreciation for the warm reception and affirmed the PCG’s commitment to mutual learning. “We are also here to learn from you. In many respects, you are doing so well, and this is a first step in strengthening our relationship. Administratively, we can learn a lot—the Bible encourages us to share with one another.”
The Clerk was accompanied by the Director of Ecumenical and Social Relations, Rev. Andrew Odjawu; Personal Assistant to the Clerk, Rev. Eugene Duodu; and the Public Relations Officer, Jerome Otchere. Apostle Tettey was supported by the GPCC Operations Manager, Mrs. Mawufemor Aninkora, and the Finance Manager, Mrs. Lydia Amponsah Boateng, in receiving the PCG delegation.
