Rev. Agyei Misah elected Western Presbytery Chairperson

The Western Presbytery has elected Rev. Ebenezer Agyei‑Misah as its new Chairperson after a highly competitive three‑round election held during the 39th Presbytery Session at Komenda in the Cape Coast District.

The election began with four nominees. In the first round, Rev. Dr. Hayford Dwomena Asirifi led with 39 votes, representing 42 percent of the total ballots cast. He was followed closely by Rev. Ebenezer Agyei‑Misah, who secured 35 votes, representing 38 percent. Rev. Justice Asumeng obtained 16 votes, representing 17 percent, while Rev. Mrs. Esther Ohene Kwafo received 3 votes, representing 3 percent.

With no candidate attaining the required threshold, the top three advanced to the next stage. The second round produced no clear winner. Rev. Agyei‑Misah moved into the lead with 47 votes, representing 50.54 percent, while Rev. Dr. Asirifi followed with 42 votes, representing 45.16 percent. Rev. Asumeng received 4 votes, representing 4.30 percent.

The narrow margin between the top two candidates resulted in a final runoff to determine the Chairperson. In the third and decisive round, Rev. Agyei‑Misah secured victory with 53 votes, representing 56.99 percent of the total ballots cast. Rev. Dr. Asirifi received 40 votes, representing 43.01 percent.

The outcome affirmed the confidence of the Presbytery in Rev. Agyei‑Misah’s leadership and vision for the next term. Rev. Agyei‑Misah, who serves as Chaplain of Prempeh College, was announced as Chairperson during the Choral Night of the Session, bringing a celebratory close to the closely watched elections in the Presbytery.

Delegates commended all candidates for their humility, maturity, and unwavering commitment to the Church throughout the process. His election marks a new chapter for the Western Presbytery as it seeks to strengthen its witness, deepen mission work, and build on the solid foundations laid by past leadership.
