The Clerk of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. David Aboagye‑Danquah, has called on Presbytery Clerks across the church to uphold proper and accurate record keeping as a core duty of their office.

He gave the charge during the 2026 Presbytery Clerks and Spouses Retreat, currently underway at the Paul Kofi Fenteng Conference Hall, Adum‑Kumasi, in the Asante Presbytery.

Rev. Aboagye‑Danquah reminded participants that the Presbytery Clerk serves as the key operational officer under the leadership of the Presbytery Chairperson and therefore bears significant responsibility for documenting and preserving the church’s history. Neglecting proper documentation, he warned, risks the loss of institutional memory and may expose the church to legal challenges.

Held from 10th to 13th May 2026, the retreat is themed: “Celebrating Our Heritage, Building on the Foundation Already Laid: The Essence of Proper Record Keeping in Disciple‑Making by Presbytery Clerks.” The annual gathering provides a platform for Clerks to share experiences, reflect on their stewardship, and strengthen administrative excellence within the Church.

Key activities include sessions with the Clerk of the General Assembly, reflections on the tenure of Clerks—especially those completing their service in 2026—performance appraisal and target setting, personal reflections, and Annual General Meetings.

Rev. Aboagye‑Danquah also presented a checklist of essential record books required in every congregation. These include Baptismal Register, Confirmation Register, Church Membership Roll Book, Attendance Register, Offertory/Fundraising/Donation Book, Customary Marriage Register, Death Register, Session Minutes Book, Church Chronicle, Visitors’ Register, Inventory Book, Wedding/Blessing Register, Differently‑Abled Members’ Register, Distant Members’ Register, Announcement Book, and VTO Book.

Outgoing Clerks shared testimonies of gratitude to God for sustaining them throughout their years of service, while also reflecting on challenges encountered and lessons learned in the discharge of their administrative duties. The retreat ends on Wednesday, 13th May 2026. More updates to follow.
