The Director of Administration and Human Resource Management (AHRM) at the General Assembly Office (GAO) of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. George Obeng‑Agyei, has reminded Public Relations Officers of the church that professional skill alone is not enough for effective media and communication ministry.

He said that the heart of a church communicator must first belong to Christ before anything else. Speaking at the opening of the national training seminar for Presbytery PROs at Abokobi on Friday night, Rev. Obeng‑Agyei explained that the training is designed to strengthen coordination between the Public Relations office at the GAO and the presbyteries.

“The goal is to ensure we communicate, publish or broadcast with one voice as a church—from the General Assembly down to the local congregation,” he noted. He emphasised that while competence in media work is essential, the spiritual life of the communicator is even more important. “PROs must know Christ rather than being occupied with their duties,” he charged.

“Your primary identity is not your title or your camera. It is Christ. When you know Him, your communication will carry truth, grace, and the heart of the church” he added. The seminar is being held under the theme: “Celebrating Our Heritage; Building on the Foundation Already Laid” (1 Corinthians 3:11) – Strategic Church Communication and Public Relations.”

On the second day of the seminar today, the sessions will cover modern communication strategies, crisis communication, content creation, and the effective use of digital platforms to engage members and the wider public. Participants include PROs from various presbyteries of the church, personnel of PCG TV, and the Christian Messenger as well as media officers of some of the church’s institutions.

The training forms part of the GAO’s broader efforts to professionalise media and communication in the church.
