The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, has called on members of the church to prepare for what he described as a historic, unmatched celebration as the denomination marks its 200th anniversary in 2028.

Addressing ministers and leaders of the Ga West Presbytery at the Redemption Congregation, New Weija District, during the third day of his official visit, the Moderator affirmed that the Presbyterian Church of Ghana is the oldest living church in the country and will become the first Christian denomination in Ghana to attain two centuries of continuous ministry.

He traced the Church’s journey from its first Jubilee in 1878 when it was known as the Basel Mission Church, through its Centenary in 1928 as the Presbyterian Church of the Gold Coast, and its 150th Anniversary in 1978, noting that each milestone reflects the faithfulness of God and the sacrifices of generations of Presbyterians.

The Moderator announced that preparations for the Bicentennial Celebration are already underway, including district thanksgiving services, the production of commemorative anniversary cloths, and specially designed Bicentennial Bibles featuring the Church’s history, logos, and portraits of past Moderators and Clerks.

He urged members to embrace the celebration as a reaffirmation of the Church’s rich heritage, stressing that the Bicentennial must inspire future generations to build upon the foundations laid by their forebears.

According to him, the grand climax in 2028 is expected to attract thousands of worshippers and church leaders from Ghana and across the world, making it one of the most significant events in the history of Christianity in Ghana.
