Moderator urges stronger evangelism in Ga West
The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, has expressed concern about the pace of growth under the church’s Agenda 2 Million membership expansion programme and has challenged the Ga West Presbytery to take a leading role in accelerating progress.
Speaking during his pastoral visit to the Presbytery, the Moderator questioned the declining growth trends recorded in some Districts and urged ministers and church leaders to intensify evangelism, discipleship, and deliberate church‑planting efforts.
Describing Ga West as the third‑largest Presbytery in the denomination, he stressed that achieving a minimum 10 percent growth rate across its Districts would make a significant contribution to the church’s national vision.
While acknowledging encouraging efforts in several Districts, the Moderator emphasized that much more work remains to be done. He disclosed that the church’s Bicentennial Church Planting Initiative has already established over 500 new congregations nationwide, with a target of 1,000 churches by 2028.
Church leaders present assured the Moderator of their commitment to meeting and exceeding the growth targets through strengthened evangelism, intentional discipleship, and community outreach programmes.
