Christianity is not instant coffee – Rev Kofi Nyarko

Christianity is not instant coffee — and ministry is not a casual assignment. That was the striking reminder from Rev. Peter Kofi Nyarko, who delivered a firm and uplifting charge to the 28 newly ordained ministers during the 2026 Ordination Service – Batch 2 at the Peyer Memorial Congregation, Bantama in Kumasi.

He cautioned that ministers must be intentional, grounded, and respectful of the church’s authority at every stage of their calling. “If you disrespect the authority of the Church, you are disrespecting God,” he warned, urging the newly ordained to honour the Presbytery and district structures under which they serve.

The ordination service itself unfolded joyfully, filled with hymns and heartfelt prayers. Ministers, family members, and church leaders gathered in vibrant colours and clerical robes, creating a warm atmosphere of gratitude and celebration. Families beamed with pride as the newly ordained processed with dignity, and the leadership of the church guided the ceremony with solemn grace.

Preaching at the service, Rev. Nyarko reminded the ordinands that “embracing Christ is not partial; it is daily life.” He stressed that ministry is lived out consistently in devotion, sacrifice, and obedience — not only in public moments or when wearing clerical attire. According to him, the journey ahead will demand self‑denial, discipline, and unwavering commitment to Christ’s mission.

He encouraged the ministers to continually return to their ordination vows, describing them as “anchors in the storms of ministry and light in moments of darkness.” The vows, he said, are not mere ceremonial words but a covenant that shapes ministers to fit into the places God calls them. “If you reflect on your ordination vows, you will not worry,” he assured them.

Rev. Nyarko also charged the newly ordained to preach faithfully and shepherd God’s people with diligence. “Stop preaching anyhow,” he said. “Prepare a sermon. Preach a message. Do not change the foundation — build on it.” He reminded them that ministry detached from Scripture becomes mere opinion, urging them to let the Word of Christ dwell richly in their hearts through disciplined prayer and Bible study.

Throughout the service, the congregation responded with joy — singing, praying, and celebrating the sacred moment. The Moderator, Rt. Rev. Dr Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye and Clerk of General Assembly, Rev. David Aboagye-Danquah conducted the rites with reverence, ensuring that every moment reflected the holiness of the occasion.

The ceremony ended with warm embraces, photographs, and renewed hope as the newly ordained ministers stepped into their new roles. As Rev. Nyarko concluded, “It is a holy call. Christ has entered into a holy covenant with you.” The day closed with gratitude, joy, and a strengthened sense of mission for the Church in Kumasi and beyond.
