Ministry is warfare, not fanfare – Rev. Dr. Ernestina Afriyie
At the fifth and final batch of the 2026 Ordination Service held at Ebenezer Congregation, Kyebi, Senior Lecturer at Trinity Theological Seminary and Minister in Charge of Charis Congregation, Spintex, Rev. Dr. Ernestina Afriyie, has cautioned newly ordained ministers that ministry is demanding, spiritually intense, and far from anything frivolous.
“Ministry is warfare, not fanfare,” she declared, stressing that being a Christian in today’s world is not easy. She highlighted the essence of ordained ministry, noting that believers constantly need guidance and protection.
“We definitely need a shepherd,” she said, adding that Christians must be led and cared for so that “the prince of this world, the enemy, will not get us.” Rev. Dr. Afriyie explained that the enemy works tirelessly to keep people away from God and often targets ministers first.
“Ministers are often the first line of attack,” she warned. “The enemy never wants us to shepherd the flock.” She emphasised that ministry is not merely attending church services or performing routine duties but giving oneself wholly to God and doing His will.
“It is preparing people for God’s kingdom,” she added. She reminded the ordinands that they are in “constant battle,” and danger arises when ministers forget this reality. “When the shepherd is struck, the sheep scatter,” she cautioned, urging them to remain vigilant.
Rev. Dr. Afriyie encouraged the ordinands to stay close to the Lord and “put on the full armour of God.” Ministers, she said, are called to partner with Christ in shepherding His flock and must remain spiritually alert, disciplined, and committed to their calling. In all, 15 ministers were ordained at the service.
