Newly ordained ministers urged to reflect on their vows

At the 2026 Ordination Service – Batch 2 in at the Peyer Memorial Congregation, Bantama, Kumasi, last Sunday, Rev. Peter Kofi Nyarko charged the 28 newly ordained ministers to continually return to their ordination vows, describing them as the compass and anchor of faithful ministry. “The ordination vows contain everything you need,” he declared.

He encouraged the ministers to reflect deeply on the vows they had taken, insisting that such reflection would sustain them through the storms of ministry. “If you reflect on your ordination vows, you will not worry,” he assured them. According to him, the vows are not mere ceremonial words but “anchors in the storms of ministry, light in darkness, and a commitment that shapes you to fit where the Lord wants you to fit.”

Rev. Kofi Nyarko explained that the vows call ministers to a life of prayer, disciplined Bible study, and total devotion to God. He warned that detaching ministry from Scripture leads to instability: “If you do not work with the Word of God, your ministry becomes opinion.” He urged them to let the Word of Christ dwell richly in their hearts and to cultivate prayers grounded in Scripture.

He also reminded them that ministry demands sacrifice and devotion. “Some ministers are not totally devoted to God,” he cautioned. He encouraged them to honour their commitments—including tithing, giving, and supporting the church’s mission—because devotion must be evident both in season and out of season.

Rev. Kofi Nyarko further urged the ministers to respect the authority of the church. “You are under a Presbytery and a district. Do not do things on your own,” he said. He warned that disrespecting church authority is equivalent to disrespecting God. He encouraged them to read the Constitution, the Manual of Order, and learn the traditions of the church.

He ended by reminding them that ministry is intentional and rooted in integrity. “It is a holy call,” he said. “Christ has entered into a holy covenant with you.”
