2028: Bicentennial climax date moved to October 29th
A major highlight of Friday10th July’s Bicentennial Planning Committee meeting was the announcement by the Clerk of General Assembly, Rev. David Aboagye‑Danquah, that the climax of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana’s Bicentennial Anniversary has been moved from 18th December 2028 to 29th October 2028.
All presbyteries will, however, hold their thanksgiving services on Sunday, 17th December 2028.
Rev. Aboagye‑Danquah explained that with barely two years to the Bicentennial, the church must work efficiently and strategically. He noted that Ghana’s general elections in December 2028 could introduce uncertainties, including the possibility of a runoff. Moving the climax to October, he said, is a prudent decision to avoid potential national disruptions and ensure full participation across the church.
The announcement was made during a review meeting of the Central Planning Committee and conveners of all Bicentennial sub‑committees, held on Friday, 10th July 2026, at the Head Office Conference Room. Presbytery representatives and committee members attended, with several joining on-line. The Clerk of General Assembly and the Director of Administration and Human Resource Management, Rev. George Obeng Agyei, Esq., guided the deliberations.
The meeting focused on peer‑reviewing the activities and programmes of each sub‑committee, assessing progress, and collectively planning ahead as the Church approaches its historic 200th anniversary. Committees presented update reports, followed by discussions and firm conclusions aimed at streamlining preparations.
The gathering ended with a renewed commitment from all committees to work collaboratively, maintain momentum, and deliver a well‑coordinated Bicentennial celebration befitting the Presbyterian Church of Ghana’s 200‑year legacy.
