The Presbyterian Church of Ghana achieved 49.05% progress in its 1,000 New Congregations Initiative, marking a major point in its worldwide church‑planting agenda, the Clerk of the General Assembly, Rev. David Aboagye‑Danquah, has disclosed.
Presenting his report to the 26th General Assembly at the Ramseyer Training Centre, Abetifi–Kwahu, the Clerk announced that 521 new congregations have been established out of the targeted 1,062, leaving 541 congregations yet to be planted as of 1st June 2026. These newly planted congregations have already contributed 15,310 new members to the PCG.
Rev. Aboagye‑Danquah said the achievement reflects the strong work of the Department of Mission and Evangelism, which continues to pursue the Great Commission through evangelism, discipleship, prayer mobilisation, leadership development, specialized ministries and global mission engagement.
He listed several major programmes undertaken during the year, including the Presbyterian Worldwide Prayer Marathon, the “In His Presence” Prayer Retreat, the 2026 National Evangelism Crusade in Kumasi, and the launch of the 2026 National Evangelism Week. The Kumasi crusade resulted in 158 souls won for Christ and the establishment of two new congregations.
To strengthen evangelism in deprived communities, the Clerk reported that the church donated 153 motorcycles during the National Evangelism Launch, with an additional 15 motorcycles later presented to the Volta and Dangme‑Tongu Presbyteries.
He also announced the launch of four strategic documents at the 25th General Assembly, Guidelines on Renewal Services, Guidelines on Discipleship, Guidelines on Shepherding, and the National Crusade Manual, designed to deepen evangelism, discipleship, pastoral care and crusade organisation across the Church.
The Clerk noted that the School of Evangelism, held at the Ramseyer Training Centre, trained 80 participants, with 58 souls won during the practical outreach component. He said the Church also supported mission work internationally, including the establishment of a new congregation at Bepoase in the Dangme‑Tongu Presbytery, and strengthening ministries in Atteridgeville and Bethal in South Africa.
Rev. Aboagye‑Danquah announced that between September 2025 and August 2026, the General Assembly Council approved the creation of eight new Districts, bringing the total number of Districts in the PCG to 397. The new Districts include Awoshie, Manhean, Akyem Asafo Banka, West Akyem, Nananko, Daboase, Twifo Hemang and Ahwerase.
